Rod's Wednesday Sports Post

The Pierre Lady Governor Track and Field squad dominated yesterday at the Miller Quadrangular Track and Field meet with Winner, Huron and Miller taking part along with the Lady Govs. Pierre got a first place finish in every individual track event but one. Tory Snyder won the 100 meter dash and Kelsey Schmitz won the 200 meter dash. Elizabeth Raecke won the 400 meters and Rachel Propst won twice winning the 800 and 1600 meter runs. Sarah Polak took first in the 3200 meters and in the hurdles races Theesa Johnson won the 100 meter hurdles. In the Relays, the 4x100 meter relay team of Snyder, Johnson, Raecke and Schmitz won the event as did the 1600 meter relay team of Tara Stout, Baily Keller, Courtney Brandt and Allison Mientsma. Gena Burley won the High Jump clearing 5-01.00 while McKenna Halverson won the Triple Jump with a leap of 33-00.5 and Sydney Palmer was a winner in the Shot Put with a toss of 35-01.0. The Lady Govs return to the track Saturday when they travel to the Rapid City Track O Rama.

The Pierre Governor Boys Track and Field squad had another very good day on the track yesterday at Miller in a quadrangular with the Rustlers, Huron Tigers and Winner Warriors. Joe Snyder won the 200 meter dash and Steve Gordon took first place in the 1600 meter run. Lane Severyn took first place in the 110 meter high hurdles. The Governors also won the 4x100 meter dash with Conner Berg, Snyder and Jared Nielan. Berg, Caleb McKinley, Gordon and Chris Rumrill won the 4x400 meter relay. And the boys 1600 sprint medley relay also crossed the finish line first. Berg was a three time winner on the day as he captured the High Jump clearing 5-10.0. Snyder also was a three time winner on the day as he won the Triple Jump with a leap of 41-02.5. Kyle Anderson won the Shot Put with a toss of 47-10.0. The Governors return to the track on Saturday when they travel to Rapid City to compete in the Track O Rama.

The annual "Little Govs" track and field meet will be held at Hollister Field this Friday evening.  This track meet is intended for pre-school - 6th grade students.  Registration begins at 5:30 and the meet begins at 6:00.  The meet is free to attend but a free-will donation will be taken.  The Pierre high school track and field athletes will be running the meet. 

Two Pierre wrestlers who compete for the Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling program were honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association recently. Tyler Sarringer and Dusty Paulsen were two of four DWU grapplers who had high academic honors with a 3.25 Grade Point Average. Sarringer's GPA of 3.96 was the second highest mark in the nation. As a team the DWU squad had the third highest GPA in the nation as a team at 3.26.
