Rod's Friday Thoughts

The Pierre Lady Governors gymnastics team scored 134.450 to win a triangular with Stanley County and Huron last night. Stanley County broke the 130 mark. For scores like this in the first meet of the season, it can only mean good things for gymnastics this year for the two squads. And both teams have mostly underclassman so it bodes well for the future.

The wrestling season begins tomorrow for Pierre and Stanley County and majority of the area squads. The 12 team Stanley County Invitational begins at 4 pm this afternoon at Parkview Gym in Ft. Pierre Gregory is the two time defending champ and they are back. Stanley County looks to be improved and could give the Gorillas a run for their money. That tournament wraps up tomorrow. Also tomorrow, the Governors will open their season at the Watertown Dual Invitational. The Governors have quite a few guys back from last year's team and some big things are expected from them. They will wrestle Milbank, Watertown and Yankton in their pool and then wrestle their place match against one of the other pool teams. Either Huron, Aberdeen Central, Mitchell or Canby, Minnesota. Pierre finished 2nd in this tournament last year.

The Governor and Lady Governor basketball teams along with Stanley County, Gettysburg and a couple other teams will be playing in a basketball jamboree tomorrow at Riggs High Gym beginning at 10 am and wrapping up about 3 pm. Fans can get a sneak peak of this year's teams. Just bring a can of food for your admission and the Lady Governor parents will also be having a walking taco feed during the hours of the jamboree. And tomorrow night, 3 former Pierre basketball players will converge on Frost Arena in Brookings. Steph Paluch and Katie Lingle of SDSU play at 5 pm against North Dakota State. Then at 7:30 pm, Michael Tveidt and his NDSU men play the Jackrabbits, who are unbeaten to this date. Michael has never lost to SDSU in his collegiate career so far so this promises to be a battle.

And the Central South Dakotans for Nebraska group will be gathering tomorrow night at Pub 34 to watch the Huskers play Oklahoma for the Big 12 championship and anyone who would like to join them is invited to do just that. The game starts at 7 pm.
