Rod's Tuesday Morning Sports

Ft. Pierre native Sam Ostarello's college basketball season is over as she and her Purdue Boilermakers dropped a 72-61 to South Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Womens Basketball Tournament. Ostarello, a junior on the Boilermakers squad struggled from the field hittin only 2 of 9 from the field for 4 points on the game but she did have a game high 13 rebounds. Purdue, the 4th seed in the West Region who defeated South Dakota State in the opening round of the tournament on Saturday, ended thier season with a 25-9 record.

Walk In Registration for summer youth baseball will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at the Georgia Morse Middle School cafeteria. Any player new to the either program must provide a copy of a birth certificate. The Capital City Baseball Association is open to any boy or girl in Central South Dakota ages 7-14. Divisions include PeeWee (born May 1, 2003 through April 30, 2005). Minor (May 1, 2001 through April 30, 2003). Major (Born May 1, 1999 through April 30, 2001). Registration fees range from $40 for PeeWees and $45 for Minors and Majors. With each registration, players will receive a $5 credit to the Jaycee batting cage located at the Oahe Sports Complex. Parents can also drop off registrations at Capital Sports, All Around Graphix, or mail them to CCBA, PO Box 231, Pierre, SD, 57501. No current resident registrations will be accepted after April 6. The annual registration night for Oahe JO Girl Fastpitch players is scheduled for Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Georgia Morse Middle School Cafeteria.  All girls that are interested in playing must register.  The registration fee is $45.  All players that have not previously played will need to bring a copy of a birth certificate that can be placed in the file as proof of age for SD ASA.  For questions, please contact Shannon Malone at 605.280.6480.

The next regular meeting for the Pierre Athletic Booster Club will be held later this afternoon. The meeting will be held in the Library of Riggs High School and is scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm. That is 15 minutes earlier than originally scheduled. Everyone interested in Governor and Lady Governor athletics is encouraged and invited to attend the meeting.

The next scheduled fund raising Pierre Post 8 American Legion Baseball Pancake and Sausage breakfast will be held this Saturday at the Pierre Post 8 American Legion Cabin in Pierre. Serving will be from 7 am to 11 am for $3 with all proceeds going to help fund the Post 8 American Legion and Tenner baseball programs in Pierre this summer. And once again, anyone who arrives before 8:30 am at the breakfast will receive a free day at a Post 8 Legion or Teener tournament this summer.
