Rod's 'Wednesday" Morning Sports Post

Pierre Governor head wrestling coach Ryan Noyes was named the Class A Region 3 Coach of the Year by the South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association. Noyes guided the Governors to their first ESD Conference dual title since 1996 and their first State Championship since 1974 this season. Other Coach of the Year Award winners in Class A included Scott Miller of Brookings in Region 1. Marc Murren of Sioux Falls Washington in Region 2 and Rapid City Central's Lance Pearson in Region 4. The four Class B Region Coach of the Year award recipients include Jerry Salanoa of Deuel, Mike Gibson of Tri-Valley, Derek Pirner of Plankinton-White Lake and Clay Leonard of Red Cloud. Nick Bortnem and Roy Weber were named the Assistant Coach and Junior High Coach of the Year by the Association. The Class B Wrestler of the Year award was won by Ben Gillette of Redfield while the Class A Wrestler of the Year award was won by Devon O'Farrell of Sioux Falls Washington. Les Pearson of Philip was named the Friend of Wrestling Award winner and Jeff Duffy of Performance Radio in Huron was named Press Coverage of the Year award winner.

The United States Bowling Congress Open is being held in Baton Rouge La., and several South Dakota bowlers including a couple of central South Dakota bowlers are among the leaders. Randy Tennant from Onida and Tim Luken from Gettysburg teamed up as doubles partners to shoot 1,231 in the classified doubles division to land them in first place.
