Rod's Friday Afternoon Sports Blog

The Pierre Rattlers amateur baseball team's doubleheader scheduled for tomorrow against Rapid City has been cancelled. Rapid City can not get enough players together to field a team. The same for Huron which was originally scheduled to play Pierre tomorrow and 4 Corners at 4 Corners on Sunday. So to fill the void, the Rattlers and 4 Corners will play each other in a single 9 inning game at 4 Corners Sunday afternoon at 3 pm. The game will be a partial make-up to the doubleheader that was not played between the two teams on May 28th.

Pierre Post 8 will take part in the 39th annual Fargo-Moorhead Invitational American Legion baseball tournament next weekend. Pierre will play 2 games each on Friday and Saturday and then a single game on Sunday. Pierre will play in Moorhead, Minnesota at Matson Field during the first two days of the tournament. On Friday they will open the tournament against the host Moorhead squad at 9 am and play Mandan, North Dakota in the days final game at 7 pm. On Saturday, Pierre will play Tri-City, Minnesota at 11:30 am and then face the Bloomington Gold from Minnesota at 2 pm. Depending on how they do in the pool play portion of the tournament they will either play at 10:00 am, 12:30 pm or if they are in the championship game they will play at 4 pm on Sunday. This is the second consecutive year that Pierre had competed in the Fargo-Moorhead tournament. Tommorrow, Post 8 plays at Valley Springs with two games. They play Brandon Valley at 2 pm and then face Harrisburg at 4:30 pm

The Pierre 13-14 Teener baseball team dropped a 12-6 verdict to Aberdeen last night at Hyde Stadium. Pierre jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning, but it was all downhill from there as Aberdeen won for the 15th time this season against no setbacks. The second game of the doubleheader was not played due to weather. The 13-14 Teeners return to action Sunday when they host Huron in a doubleheader at 2 pm at Hyde Stadium. Huron beat Pierre 18-17 in their first contest of the season back on June 7th. The second game that night was called due to lightning.
