The Pierre 15-16 "Green" Teener baseball team split a doubleheader with Sioux Falls West last night at Hyde Stadium. In the opener, Sioux Falls rolled to a 14-3 win in 5 innings. The "Green's" battled back in the nightcap for a 12-5 win. The Green Teeners next action is this weekend when they host the Kris Stephans Memorial Baseball Tournament along with the Pierre "White" 15-16 Teener baseball squad.

The 2011 South Dakota Hershey State Track and Field meet will be held in Pierre this Saturday with up to 1,000 partipants possibly taking part. Field Events begin at 9:00 am with the Running Events beginning at 11:30 am. All partipants must check in and register between 8:00 am and 11:00 am. Athletes who will take part in this weekends meet qualified through local Hershey meets held throughout the state over the course of the last 3 weeks. State champions may become eligible to compete in the National Hershey Track and Field meet scheduled for Hershey, Pennsylvania in August. Pierre officals stress that Pierre is open despite the flooding and the State Hershey meet will be held at Hollister Field in Pierre.

This summer, four members of the Pierre Jr. Shooters Air Rifle Team, Jake Trautman, Amanda Erickson, Brittney Kirkpatrick and Roberta Forman, will be traveling to Port Clinton (Camp Perry), Ohio to compete in the National Junior Olympics 3 Position Air Rifle Championships. Last year, the Pierre team placed fifth in the nation, in the sporter air rifle, club division. Three members of last year’s team are on this year’s team, so the team is hoping to do as well or better than last year’s team. These four Pierre kids have been shooting air rifle together since they were 12 years old. This will be the last competition for three members of this team as they have graduated from high school this year. This year’s team qualified by winning the South Dakota Junior Olympics Championships held in Pierre in March. The National Championship will be held from June 30 through July 2. This year the squad has also won the South Dakota State American Legion Championship.
