Wow, what a Bummer. The Governors got into a early hole once again, down 20-5 early in the second quarter but then played the Golden Eagles even the rest of the way as we lose 62-45. They were down 8 at the half but there was no second half comeback. Good game I thought by Travis Adney with 15 points. And our freshman and sophomores did not stand back and let this senior dominated team roll over them. I mentioned it to coach Becker on our post game interview that it seems like our guys have to get mad and say enough before they scratch and claw and find thier way against these more veteran teams. I can guarantee you one thing. There are now 3 coaches in District 3AA that are leary about playing Pierre in the district tournament. Aberdeen coach Brent Norberg even said that before the game tonight. Eventually those shots inside will start to fall and when they do, look out. Another bright point was turnovers. Yes, we had 20 and that is too many but considering we had 15 in the first half, it was a marked improvement in protecting the ball. Next up Watertown on Friday in H2O town. Then Yankton at home on Saturday.
And there is good news to report. The Governor wrestlers won thier dual at Brookings 50-15. Terrance Maier and Chancy Riggle won by pin at 171 and 189 and Tanner Monfore won by technical fall at 103 for the highlights. JV won 61-0. Everything was a forfeit except for weight classes. Dawson Monfore and Alec Williams won the two matches that were wrestled.
