Rod's Tuesday Take N Things

Pierre has a new head boys and girls cross country coach and they did not have to go outside the Pierre Riggs High School building to find probably the most qualfied candidate you could hope for. ESD coaching experience. Big School coaching experence and collegiate coaching experience! Riggs High Librarian Keith Christensen is the new coach boys and girls cross country coach. Here is his resume!

-21 years of experience as a Cross Country Coach.
-17 years as the Mitchell High School Head Cross Country and 14 years as the Head Track Coach
-Keith has coached teams to 3 ESD Cross Country titles (2 boys, 1 girls) and 4 ESD Track and Field titles (2 boys, 2 girls) while at Mitchell.
-3 years as Asst. Cross Country Coach at Dakota Wesleyan University
-1 year as Head Cross Country Coach at JFK High School – Denver Colorado

That is an impressive resume, don't you think. I asked Riggs Athletic Director Dan Whalen how many candidates there were for the job and here is what he told me. And I quote.

"We had 3 candidates all within the Pierre system. All were good candidates and we feel lucky to have that type of quality in our system. Keith brings a vast amount of experience and success to our program. Keith will take over a program that we think is on the rise and we are confident he can continue that rise as we search to go to the next level with our Cross Country program".

And we should congratulate Bruce Venner one more time. He put in a number of years as head coach, worked with the kids religously and had results. Names like Brad Lowery stick out the most. Alec Espeland is the most recent. And we have a rising star in Bridget Simmmons who is a sophomore this year. Way to go Bruce and good luck Keith.
