You probably have already heard but former Pierre Governor basketball standout Sam Willard signed a professional basketball contract to play with Team BK Ventspils in Latvia. Willard has been in Pierre in recent days but is leaving to head to the European country. Terms of the deal that Willard signed were not announced. Willard completed his collegiate career at Pacific University after becoming the only player in Pacific history to score 1,000 points, pull down 800 rebounds and have 80 steals. He was an All Big West first team performer this past season. Willard signed his contract with the Latvian pro team in mid July.

Sioux Falls West defeated Pierre Green 5-3 in the State VFW 15-16 Teener State Baseball tournament this morning. Cody Honeywell was the losing pitcher for Pierre while Austin Wagner had 4 of Pierre's 9 hits in the game. With the loss, Pierre Green is now 1 and 1 in tournament play while Sioux Falls West is 2-0. Pierre Green will play again this eveing at 7 pm in the tournament. The Pierre White Teener team was playing Brandon Valley in a game that started at 10 a.m in an elimination game in the tournament.
