The Class A State Baseball Tournament wrapped up yesterday in Yankton with Sioux Falls East defeating the host Yankton squad 8-2. It was their first title since 2004. Sioux Falls East now moves on to the regionals, which begin Thursday in Dickinson, North Dakota.

The Pierre Green 15-16 Teener baseball team claimed bragging rights for a season in Pierre as they swept a doubleheader from the Pierre White 15-16 Teener baseball team in the regular season home finale for both squads last night at Hyde Stadium. The Greens beat the Whites 7-6 in the first game which was the league contest and then completed the sweep with a 19-15 win in the nightcap. In the opener, Carson Eisenbeiz went 2 for 3 and scored 3 runs to lead the Green Teeners. Ben Liedholt had two doubles and RBI for the White squad. Cody Honeywell went the distance to pick up the win for the Green squad. In the nightcap, Cash Anderson had 4 RBI's to lead the Green offense while Liedholt went 3 for 3 with a single, double and triple. The Green squad travels to Brandon today for a 4 pm doubleheader before advancing to the State AA VFW Teener tournament next week in Brookings. The White squad awaits word whether or not they have qualified for the State tournament.

The Pierre Rattlers amateur baseball team had it's season come to an end over the weekend as they went 1 and 2 at the Region 1A tournament in Brookings beating Huron but losing twice to Castlewood. The Rattlers dropped their opening game to Castlewood 6-3 on Saturday but bounced back yesterday in an elimination game to defeat Huron 11-9. That set up another contest with Castlewood, an elimination game, and the Rattlers were beaten 7-5 to end their season. Pierre ends the 2011 campaign with a 5 and 14 record. Brookings and Castlewood both advanced to the State Class A amateur baseball tournament that begins next Friday in Pierre.

Pierre Athletic Director Dan Whalen says that the Parent and Athlete meetings with coaches of the fall sports is scheduled for this evening at Riggs High School. Parents and Athletes that plan to participate in Athletics at Riggs High School for the 2011-12 school year can come in and get their Required Athletic Paperwork completed for any sport for any season – fall, winter or spring. The General meeting begins at 6:30 pm. The Fall Sports Meetings (with the exception of Girls Tennis which will be held on Thursday Aug. 4th @ 7:00 pm at Riggs HS Cafeteria) will follow the general information session and paperwork explanation.

The Oahe Mens Golf Association 2011 Championship tournament will be held on Sunday at the Murdo Golf Course in Murdo due to flooding having closed the facility at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre. The 27 hole tournament will have six flights including Senior and Super Senior divisions. To register for the tournament or get more information contact Boy Conzemius at his Insurance Agency next to Zesto or call 224-6271. The deadline to register for the tournament is today.

Levi Woodring and Bailey Wooley were the Junior Jam winners yesterday at Oahe Speedway north of Pierre. Woodring, from Holdrege, Nebraska defeated Kimberlee Guether of Ft. Pierre in the Finals of the Junior Major Division. Wooley, from Lexington, Nebraska defeated Charlee Schumacher of Rapid City to take the title in the Junior Minor division. Also yesterday, the second points series race in the Coca Cola Points Series was run this weekend after being postponed in May. The winners included Curt Humann of Pierre in the Pro Series Class. Todd Caspar of Willow Lake took the Pro Series and Karen Englund of Pierre won the Sportsman Class. In the Bike Series race, Toby Giese of Kandyoki, Minnesota won. Robert Kuntz of Thompson, North Dakota took the Street Trophy Class while James Morris of Pierre prevailed in the High School Class finals and Carly Ellington of Rapid Cit won the Junior Gamblers race yesterday.

Saturday's winners at Oahe Speedway north of Pierre included Caleb Kleewien of North Platte, Nebraska in the Junior Major Countdown to the Jam race. Jonathan Huse of Onida won the Junior Minor Countdown to the Jam race. Other Saturday winners at Oahe Speedway included Randy Nygaard of Watertown taking the title in the Box Shootout while Jim Hunsley of Rapid City won the No Box Shootout division and Brian Brad of Pierre won Saturday's Trophy Shootout division race.

The Pierre Adult Soccer League will be playing games beginning Sunday August 21st and will play every Sunday thru October 9th at the Pierre Indian Learning Center Soccer Fields. Games will be played beginning at 5:30 pm. For more information contact Mark Morris in Pierre.

The Pierre Recreation Department is once gain sponsoring a fall adult kickball league in Pierre-Ft. Pierre. Anyone who is interested in having a team in the league this fall should contact City Recreation Director Mindy Cheap at 773-7445 or email her at mindy.cheap@ci.pierre.sd.us. The deadline to contact Cheap is August 10th.
