The Pierre Governor golf team will be traveling to Huron today and tomorrow. Head Coach John Knox says that challange matches will be played over the course of the next two days at the Broadland Creek Golf Course as coach Knox narrows down the numbers and selects his varsity team for the first two tournament of the season, Thursday at Spearfish and Friday at Rapid City. Coach Knox says that right now he has 4 golfers back from last year's varsity squad so a couple of spots are open and maybe three depending on things on the varsity roster.


On Line registration for JV and Varsity Boys Hockey for the Pierre-Ft. Pierre Capitals is under way. The registration period began last Monday and will continue through thru September 5th. You can register on the Oahe Hockey Association's website at www.oahehockey.org. On line registration for all other divisions of hockey will begin on September 6th and run through the 30th.


Yesterday was the 8th Coca Cola Points Series races at Oahe Speedway north of Pierre. The winners included Rick Meier of Box Elder in the Super Pro Class. Joe Harry of Ferney captured the Pro Class Races. Schaun Schnathorst of Huron was a first time winner at the track this season winning the Bike race while Travis Falcon of Pierre won the Sportsman Class Division races. Adam Vetter of Gettysburg was the winner of the Street Trophy Class. Stephanie Holm of Pierre captured the High School division while the Junior Major Division winner was Carly Ellingson of Rapid City and Noah Miller of Ft. Pierre won the Junior Minor Division. The Gamblers race winner was Sonnie Boke of Gettysburg. The next racing at Oahe Speedway will be in two weekends on August 27th and 28th.


Youth bowling registration for the upcoming season will be held at the Lariat Lanes in Pierre beginning at 5:30 this evening. All interested area youth ages 6 though high school age are encouraged to sign up for sanctioned junior league bowling. In addition, following the registration period, there will be a small awards ceremony for all youth bowlers who earned trophies and awards from last season’s State Youth Tournament in Sioux Falls. The awards presentation will begin at around 7:00 this evening.
