The annual Doug Koester Memorial Baseball tournament begins at noon tomorrow at Hyde Stadium when Valley Springs and Winner play at 12 noon followed at approximatly 2:15 pm by the Pierre Split Squad taking on Mandan, N.D. Valley Springs and the Pierre Post 8 Varsity will play at 4:45 pm and the Post 8 Varsity wraps up the first day at 7 pm against Mandan. Sunday's schedule has Valley Springs and Mandan opening up the day's play at 10 am followed by Winner taking on the Post 8 Split Squad at 12:15 pm. Sunday's final game at 2:45 pm has the Post 8 Varsity taking on Winner. Season passes are good for the Friday triangular, while regular tournament daily admission of $5 per adult will be charged for the Saturday and Sunday slates.
The Pierre Split Squad lost a doubleheader last night to the Rapid City Post 22 Expo's at Hyde Stadium. The Split Squad lost by scores of 10-7 and 16-9.
While the Pierre Split Squad is busy playing in the Koester Memorial tournament and using several Pierre 15-16 Green Teener team players, the other two teener teams are in action this weekend as well. The 13-14 Teeners will travel to Aberdeen to compete in a 3 day tournament and the Pierre 15-16 White Teener team will travel to Huron for a doubleheader tomorrow night.
The Pierre Rattlers amatuer baseball team is scheduled to go to Winner Sunday night for their next game. Winner handed the Rattlers a 1 run setback in Pierre's home opener back in early June. Since then the Rattlers have a had a number of games cancelled or postponed and are 3 and 7 on the season. First pitch Sunday night in Winner is scheduled for 7 pm.
The next scheduled monthly meeting of the Pierre Athletic Booster Club will be held Tuesday at 5:45 pm at Pier 347 in downtown Pierre. Plans for the Booster Clubs annual golf tournament scheduled for July 30th at Oahe Trails Golf Course north of Pierre will be finalized at the meeting. And, the booster club is still in need of a chairperson to take the Sports Book project. If any members are interested contact any of the current officers, or past chair Sara Hermanson.
