Two Pierre golfers are competing in the State Women's Match Play Golf tournament in Brandon at the Brandon Valley Golf Club. Yesterday was seeding day and Taylor Smalley and Hallie Getz each fired 82's to be seeded 24th and 25th. Smalley is facing Paige Osterloo of Rapid City in a first round match today. Osterloo is the 9th seed. And Getz, the 25th seed is paired up against 8th seed Kelli Sinkson of the Northern Links Country Club. Both players were scheduled for tee off's before 8 am this morning.
The Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball team defeated Valley Springs 6-5 yesterday in a baseball triangular at Hyde Stadium. They were trailing Mandan in the final game of the day in the bottom of the 5th when the game was halted due to the rain and thunderstorm that moved through the Pierre area last night. Pierre is hosting the annual Koester Memorial tournament today at Hyde Stadium with games beginning at 12 noon. Pierre plays Valley Springs again at 4:45 pm and Mandan at 7 pm. The Pierre Split Squad plays at 2:30 pm. Games tomorrow begin at 10 am with the Post 8 varsity playing Winner in the tournaments final game at 2:30 pm. The Split Squad plays Winner at 12:15 pm.
