Darren Boyle's weekly words of wisdom from the B's

We have reached the final day of the boys basketball season. Sully Buttes got back on the winning track yesterday with a 63-45 win over Colman-Egan. The Chargers were able to play their type of game more than they did against Viborg, and the team fed off of that to get the "w" and the chance to play for the consolation championship against an old nenesis in James Valley Christian. They know each other well and it should be an entertaining way for these two teams to close out the season. We will have it for you on River 92.7 @ about 1:45.

White River will play in the state B championship game for the third straight year. They survived in the semi-finals as they outlasted Viborg. The Tigers knew they had to play an up tempo game to be successful and they were able to do that for 3 1/2 quarters. But the Vikings staged an awesome comeback cut it to 3 with less than a minute left as White River missed 5 consecutive free throws. Viborg got a good look at a three to tie but missed and the Ztigers were able to hang on. There was alot of talk around the hotel of the technical foul called against Viborg in the final seconds for delay of game. In my mind it shouldnt have been called, and in the end I dont believe it would have made any difference anyway. After Viborg got the two pointer instead of the three it was over. So White River plays Hitchcock- Tulare for the state B title. The Patriots have been the comeback kids of this years "B". They have erased double digit deficits in both of their tournament games and if anyone can match up with White Rivers quickness it is H-T. Alot of times in state championship games, it comes down to how much each team has in the tank and as I type this I am not sure how much either team has. No matter what it is going to be fun we should tip off around 8:00 on River 92.7 and www.dakotaradiogroup.com.

There also has been been alot of buzz around here about the AA semi final game last night between Huron and O'Gorman. It sounds like the Newton kid from Huron had to be carried off on a stretcher after a dunk attempt and a hard play where there was no foul called. Perhaps there was some bad blood remaining from when the two teams played earlier this season when Mr. Newton threw an elbow that caught an O'Gorman kid and fractured his jaw. I havent seen the play from last night, for some reason there are no replays available and noone has put it on youtube yet, but I have seen the play from earlier this season. That play was dirty, pure and simple. Something should have been done at the time to make sure it didnt happen again but of course there wasnt and now this play happens at the AA tournamnet which is one of the SDHSAA's marquee events. Somebody, somewhere, better get a grip on what is happening, because there is no place for this in high school sports.

See you on the radio this afternoon.
