The Pierre Athletic Booster Club will be having a new fundraiser that will begin this week at a couple of Governor and Lady Governor varsity contest. It is called "Lay It On the (Yard) Line. The Booster Club will sell each yard line for $20, with a chance to win $50 (twice at each game, a total of 6 chances this season). The Booster Club's plans are to sell the yard lines at the Lady Gov volleyball game Thursday night, and at the Wegner Auto Whopper Feed, on Friday prior to the game and at the game. The Whopper Feed will run from 5 to 7 pm.

The Pierre Lady Governor competitive cheer and dance teams turned in another pair of strong performances at the Brookings Invitational on Saturday. The cheer team finished in fourth place in the stunting/non-tumbling division, while the dance team took ninth place. In dance, the Lady Governors finished with an average score of 166.5 to finish in ninth. The Lady Gov’s highest finish came in kick, where the Lady Governors claimed third place with a score of 183.5. Sioux Falls Washington won the team title with a score of 262.83. In the cheer portion, the Lady Governors finished with a score of 146 to claim fourth place. Pierre was a half point behind Sturgis for third place. Yankton took the stunting/non-tumbling title with a score of 175. The Lady Gov’s return to action a week from tomorrow when they compete in the Sioux Falls O'Gorman Invitational.

The Pierre Governor soccer team went 1 and 1 over the weekend as the Governors defeated Brandon Valley 3-1 on Friday but dropped a 3-2 verdict to Spearfish on Saturday to leave the Governors 12th in the 13 team state high school league. The Lady Governors are fifth in the girls league standings after they won two games over the weekend. The Governors defeated Brandon Valley 5-3 and then scored as time expired on Saturday to record a 2-1 win over Spearfish. The Governors and Lady Governors host Watertown in their final regular season games of the season on Saturday.

2nd ranked Mobridge-Pollock prevailed as the Big Dakota Conference Champions in the annual volleyball tournament played Saturday in Ft. Pierre. Mobridge-Pollock swept Chamberlain 2 games to non in the title game. Stanley County finished 7th in the tournament as the Lady Buffalos wrapped up the day with a 26-24, 25-18 win over McLaughlin in the 7th place match. The Lady Buffs were beaten by Mobridge-Pollock in their first game 25-4, 25-9 and then were beaten by Cheyenne Eagle Butte in the consolation semi final round 25-21, 25-19. The Lady Buffalos travel to Miller tomorrow night.
