Rod's Friday Sports Blog

The Pierre Rattlers amateur baseball team was to have opened the season tomorrow against Four Corners. Four Corners field was not ready so the doubleheader was moved to Pierre. Was is the key word. Rattlers General Manager Tom Magedanz says that with the emergency in Pierre and Ft. Pierre with the impending flooding, the doubleheader has been postponed at least. And no make up date has been determined or even talked about between the two teams. The two were are scheduled for 4 games during the season so we will have to wait and see.

With the flooding that is coming it is hard to think about sports in Pierre-Ft. Pierre. There is a pretty good chance that flood waters might reach the softball fields at the Oahe Complex and the little league field there. If that happens, the entire season may have to be cancelled. And two golf course in Pierre and Ft. Pierre, Hillsview and The Dunes are right along the river and in danger of being flooded and shut down. Hopefully the Levee's that are going to be built will help and do what they are supposed to do.

The Pierre Governor boys basketball camp is scheduled to be run next week and it will be but at a different location. Instead of being held at Riggs High Gym, the camp has been moved to the Oahe Family YMCA. Everything else about the camp remains the same with the elementary camp running to 9 am to 11:30 am. The Middle School camp going from 1 to 3:30 pm and the high school camp running from 5 to 8 pm all 4 days. But the camp has been moved to the Oahe YMCA and will not be held at Riggs High Gym.

I have not visited with Legion Baseball head coach Bob Sullivan about Monday's doubleheader with Rapid City Post 22 at Hyde Stadium but as of right now, it is still on as scheduled for a 2 pm start time. But thanks to the flooding and the Army Corp of Engineer's and some of their thought process and decisions, sports this summer in Pierre-Ft. Pierre isn't painting a very pretty picture at the present time anyway.
