Rod's Saturday Sports Blog

Pierre American Legion Baseball head coach Bob Sullivan contacted me this morning. The games for Monday against Rapid City Post 22 are still on as scheduled with a doubleheader set to begin at 2 pm at Hyde Stadium. He says that because of the flooding and everything going on Pierre he knows it will be tough for some to come to the ball game. But for those that do come to the game, they can come and watch the games for free. No admission on Monday. So if you want to get away for a couple of hours and watch some Legion baseball, your invited to do that on Monday at Hyde Stadium. Again, No Admission will be charged on Monday for the Pierre and Rapid City Post 22 American Legion baseball doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2 pm.

The Pierre Governor senior sprinter and hurdler Parker McKittrick is a two time state champion and placed in 4 events today at the State High School Track and Field meet in Sioux Falls. McKittrick won the 110 meter high hurdles in a time of 14:28 and won the 300 meter hurdles in a time of ;38.24 setting a new state high school Class AA meet record in the process. McKittrick, who will be headed to North Dakota State to compete in track and field next year had a 6th place finish in the 100 meter dash and he finished 3rd in the 200 meter dash. That is 29 points that McKittrick picked up for the Governors just by himself today. Stephan Nielsen finished 6th in the 800 meter run at the state meet and the Governors placed 6th in the 4x800 meter relay. The Governors finished with 40 points and a 8th place finish at the state meet. The Lady Governors meanwhile had a tough two days at the state meet and finish 16th.. Gena Burley finished in a 3 way tie for 8th place in the high jump to be the Lady Govs only place winner in the two day meet.
