Rod's Tuesday Sports Blog

The Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball doubleheader with Rapid City Post 22 was rained out yesterday in Pierre. The games have not been rescheduled.. Pierre, with their 2-2 record on the season, is scheduled to travel to Sturgis for a doublehader tomorrow night before heading to the Lewis and Clark Tournament hosted by Yankton. Pierre will play their round robin portion of the tournament in Hartington, Nebraska on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The scheduled doubleheader tomorrow between Pierre's two 15-16 teams, the Green Teeners and the White Teeners, has been postponed indefinitely because of the flooding situation in Pierre. Missouri River flows are scheduled to increase substantially starting on Thursday, and Wednesday is the final opportunity for community preparation against flooding. A new date will be announced later. At this time the preliminary plan calls for the Green-White game during the Stephens tournament to serve as the substitute. Changes in practice schedules will be announced to players by each team's coaches at the 15-16 and 13-14 levels while flood preparations continue this week.

The 4th-7th grade volleyball clinic, scheduled for June 1-3 from 9:00-11:00 at the Georgia Morse Middle School new gym has been moved to Jefferson Elementary gym due to the Red Cross use of GMMS.  The cost is $30 and players can register at the door.  For more information, contact Laura Weber via email at Laura.Weber@k12.sd.us or call 945-2735.

There will be an end of the season track and field awards banquet/ ice cream social on Thursday, June 2nd at 6:00 pm at the Riggs cafeteria.  Sophomores / seniors --> bring 1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream and Freshmen / juniors --> bring your favorite ice cream topping.  All athletes who participated in high school track and field during the 2011 season are encouraged to attend.  Families of track and field athletes are also welcome.

Rain again washed out yesterday's drag races at Oahe Speedway north of Pierre. The Coca Cola Points Series races from Sunday and Monday were both rained out and track officials have not determined how they will be made up. All 3 of the points series races this season have been rained out. The next scheduled races at the Speedway are in two weekends on June 11th and 12th.
