Rod's Thursday Sports N Things

Another camp is coming up for youngsters in Pierre-Ft. Pierre and central South Dakota. The Pierre Post 8 American Legion's Little League baseball camp will be held on Thursday and Friday May 26th and 27th at the Oahe Softball Complex. The camp is being run by Pierre Post 8 head coach Bob Sullivan and the Legion baseball team. The camp will run from 1 to 5 pm both days and is for both boys and girls ages 9 to 13. There is a $40 fee per camp participant which includes a T-Shirt and snacks. Players will need to bring their own bats, gloves, caps, baseball shoes and pants along with catchers gear. Applications for the camp are available on the Post 8 baseball website www.post8baseball.com. Pre registration is preferred with that deadline set for May 19th. Players must have signed permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate in the camp.

As I mentioned earlier this week, Post 8 is ready to open it's season this weekend hosting Aberdeen and Rapid City Post 320. Aberdeen only has 12 players on it's Legion Varsity squad and a new head coach as Mark Gulseth stepped down. Post 320 won't be the same team that they will be later this season towards regional tournament time. They have players that are currently playing high school baseball in Rapid City. Post 8 has 21 players listed on it's Legion Varsity roster as they have almost everybody back from last year's squad. They only lost 2 players in Ryan Lauseng and Kris Hewlett. Pierre and Aberdeen will play at 2 pm on Saturday followed at around 4 pm by Aberdeen and Rapid City Post 320. Then Post 320 and Pierre will play at about 6 pm. On Sunday the schedule is the same except that the first game with Pierre and Aberdeen is scheduled for 10 am with the other two games at noon and 2 pm.

And after this weekend, Tuesday night of next week will be Post 8 Night where fans can come to Hyde Stadium and watch all of the Post 8 teams play capped off by an exhibition game between the Post 8 Legion squad and the Pierre Rattlers amateur team.
