Rod's Sunday Morning Sports This N That

The word is that the Pierre Governors 4th place finish yesterday in the ESD Conference Track and Field Meet was good enough to push Pierre to win the ESD Conference All Sports title for the 2010-11 sports season. The Governors finished one point ahead of the second place finisher. Pierre had a co-championship this year in football. A conference title in boys golf. A 2nd place finish in Cross Country. Tied for second in basketball and was third in boys tennis and 3rd in boys track and field. That is consistent success. Congratulations to all of the coaches and the athletes of Pierre Governor boys sports this school season.

And one of Pierre's Division 1 track and field athletes helped North Dakota State to another Summit League men's track and field championship. Matt Tetzlaff won the 110 meter hurdles and he finished second in the 300 meter hurdles. Another Governor athlete at NDSU, Alec Espland, had a 4th place finish in the 1500 meters for the Bison.

The Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball team allowed 6 runs in the top of the 7th inning as Aberdeen defeated Pierre 14-7 in the season opener for both teams last night in Pierre. The second game was tied in the 5th when the game was called due to weather conditions. That game will be picked up at 11 am followed by Pierre against Aberdeen at noon. Aberdeen against Rapid City Post 320 at 2 pm and then Pierre against Post 320 at 4. All games are at Hyde Stadium.
