Rod's Monday Sports

Dont' forget about the meetings and fund raising events on the schedule today and tomorrow for several of our athletic squads in Pierre. This Saturday and Sunday the Post 8 Legion baseball team begins play for the upcoming season hosting Aberdeen and Rapid City Post 320 at Hyde Stadium in a pair of triangulars both days. Pierre plays Aberdeen on Saturday at 2 pm. Aberdeen and Rapid City Post 320 will play at 4 pm and then Pierre and Post 320 will meet up at 6 pm. Sunday's schedule is the same as Saturday except that games begin at 10 am, noon and 2 pm. As I mentioned a couple of week's ago, we have decided not to broadcast Legion baseball games this year. It was a decision that did not come easy but came from the top. The economy is not as good as it could be as you probably know and we must sell a certain amount of advertising to make games on the radio work. That has been getting harder and harder over the course of the last couple of years. Last year, we wound up with more expenses during the Legion baseball season than we did profit. So the boss told me that we were not going to broadcast this year. Hopefully we can try again next year and see what happens. As I looked back, it will be the first time in some 25 years that the Dakota Radio Group has not broadcast Legion baseball games and the first time since I began here in 1992. It's unfortunate but our rule is that we have to make some money to do things. Other stations have their own rules. So go out, support the Legion and Teeners and baseball in Pierre because the kids deserve it.
