Darren Boyle's (almost) weekly words of wisdom
If you havent already noticed, one of the many sports I try to follow is auto racing, especially NASCAR. And although my interest has been up or down depending on the year, I would admit I have never been a fan of Dale Earnhardt Jr. But the luck that kid has been having this season has me starting to root for him at least a little bit. All the pressure of being the son of arguably the best driver of our generation, driving for the best team in the sport with probally the coolest sponsor, and he can hardly hit his pit stall this season. Him starting the "big one" in the season opener @ Daytona this season didnt get things off to a good start and he hasnt been able to shake the funk since. Now he is even HIS loyal fans are starting to to make fun of him in the world of "blog", I read one post where they compared his driving skills to Michael Waltrip. That is going a little too far. Even though I root for Tony Stewart, I would suggest that as you watch the race this Sunday, you could at least hope Dale Jr. doesnt have another bad day. Michigan is one of his favorite tracks and if he doesnt run well there, its gonna be a long rest of the season for him. High School football teams start practice this next week and one of the teams to watch in the 9-man ranks will be the Lyman Raiders, they came up short in the semi finals to a very good Marion-Hurley squad. And with the Raiders having lot of skill position players back, they should be one of the areas top teams. What do you think? This blog is not just here for us sports guys to write, we welcome your ideas and comments as well. If you have an opinion on some of the other football teams in the area this year please post a comment. Lets keep things positive if we can and have some fun!

Gettysburg returns 6 starters and several others who saw alot of playing time from last year's state runner up team. They should be in the hunt this year as a 9B team to watch.
ReplyDeleteWOW that means that in a fews weeks you will be racing about the country on fridays nights. Now watch all that NASCAR is not giving you any ideas. HMMMM! I think that I will stick to walking to get to the game.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why Jr. is the most popular driver in NASCAR other than getting the position handed to him because of his name. He is NOT that good of a driver.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to following the Scotties from Philip this year. They have a good bunch of kids coming back from last years team which was having a great season until injuries to several key players sidelined them. With many of the players on a successful wrestling team and a second place finish at last years State track meet, they have gotten the taste of what it is like to win and I think they are enjoying it. Hope it continues with this years football team.
ReplyDeleteDarren says: Looks like I needed to do some more research on local teams, Gettysburg and Philip both have long running traditions and VERY good coaches. It wont be long "are you ready for some football?". My hoping for good things for Dale Jr. paid off this week didnt it?
ReplyDeleteOh yes, the Brett Farve saga continues. Vikings are still interested? I wonder if George Blanda is still alive? He used to be pretty good kicker!! Maybe the Vikes should try to get him. Maybe get OJ out of jail for the backfield!!
ReplyDeleteDarren says: Just wait, I am putting some thoughts together on the Farve "saga" stay tuned
