Rod's Tuesday Ramblings 8/11/09
Congratulations to the Pierre B Teeners baseball team. 21 wins this year and a 3rd place finish at the Minor State tournament (they have to come up with a different name than minor. It sounds so, so, minor). Reality check though. Not the best of seasons for Post 8 baseball teams. But with dedicated coaches like we seem to have in the program beginning at the top with coach Sullivan, things hopefully will get better next year. Remember, baseball players that are multi sport athletes, get alot of pressure in the summer to go to camps and team camps and play alot, so it takes full attention away from the baseball field. I would dare say that if that player wanted to go to a baseball camp in the middle of a fall or winter high school sport, the allowance by that particular sports coach would probably not be the same as what it is in the summer. But then it depends on the individual athlete as well. And I want to congratulate the Pierre baseball board on what appeared to be a superbly run State AA Teener tournament last weekend. Rain, rescheduling, and groundskeeping became a test, a test that the guys should get an A+ for. And from a media standpoint, the gentleman in charge of the post 8 baseball website did as good a job as has been done at the Teener level, ever as far as I am concerned. Having been a board member, the gentleman on that board (and not all of them are dads of kids on the teams) are pretty much under appreciated for the time and effort they put in to fund raising mostly, but in tournaments like we just had, ground maintenence, public relations and tournament operations to name a few. I bristle when I hear people say that the only reason so and so is playing is because his daddy is on the board. Maybe that person should inquire about becoming a board member and find out first hand how things are done and handled and how coaches are hired and what is expected? From this former board member to the current members....."You done good".
