Brian's view of Week5

Well, the weather might wreak havoc on games this weekend, not to mention what they could do to my Week5 picks, but at least I've got a good excuse if my picks suck this week. :o) First of all, a look back at Week4, shows another good week picking games, but still not too good in picking the marquee matchups. I'm not sure why I thought Hanson would beat Emery/Ethan, but E/E's 49-0 win has me thinking the best team in 9AA may still not be in Region 4......yet! Congrats to Lyman for winning the game of the week last Friday over Howard. Now we get Howard against Emery/Ethan tonight, before that Lyman-Philip clash next week. Second half of the season is underway, and this thing's gettin' good!

Week 4 stats:
Overall: 59-10 (263-62 on the season)
11AA: 7-1 (33-7)
11A/B: 20-3 (88-23)
9-man: 32-6 (142-32)

Week 5 picks for area games, marquee matchups, all 11AA, and even a stinker pick or two:
DRG AREA GAMES:
CHAMBERLAIN at Miller -- both teams struggling, but this should be pretty competitive
HITCHCOCK-TULARE at Wessington Springs/Woonsocket
Hoven/Edmunds Central at GETTYSBURG -- Battlers might be taking frustrations out on H/EC
Kimball at CORSICA/STICKNEY -- C/S is pretty scary
Faith at LEMMON/McINTOSH
Faulkton at LEOLA/FREDERICK -- Faulkton is playing great, but L/F is on a roll
KADOKA at Lower Brule
HERREID/SELBY at McLaughlin
MOBRIDGE-POLLOCK at Crow Creek -- will there be enough light to play this afternoon?
Colome at SUNSHINE BIBLE -- ditto
Newell at DUPREE
Pine Ridge at CHEYENNE-EAGLE BUTTE -- Braves struggling a bit, but should get this one
PLATTE-G/DC at Stanley Co. -- Black Panthers are still awful good
SULLY BUTTES at Northwestern
BISON at Timber Lake -- hard times for Panthers
White River at PHILIP
Wolsey-Wessington at HIGHMORE-HARROLD -- make it 2 straight for Pirates
LYMAN at Jones Co. -- on KPLO Saturday afternoon

MARQUEE MATCHUPS:
EMERY/ETHAN at Howard -- talked about this one above - 9AA is the best class this year
VIBORG at Menno -- Viborg last to Avon last week for first loss - Menno still unbeaten in 9B
Wall at HARDING CO. -- good ol' fashioned prairie brawl
WINNER at Belle Fourche -- another win out west for Warriors, slightly easier than last week at STM

11AA (all non-conference games this week):
RC Stevens at PIERRE -- welcome home Govs - keep doing what you're doing
Brandon Valley at SF ROOSEVELT -- I think Roosevelt is starting pick things up
Mitchell at RC CENTRAL -- could be a toss-up here
SF Lincoln at WATERTOWN
Yankton at SF O'GORMAN -- Bucks can win if they finish drives (unlike last week against Govs)
SF WASHINGTON at Brookings
Sturgis at ABERDEEN CENTRAL
Spearfish at HURON -- the loser misses the playoffs in 11AA this year

I promised a couple of stinker picks. Spearfish-HURON is one where someone has to win. The other is Tea Area at SF CHRISTIAN. Both teams 0-4 - first ever football season at SF Christian - this will be their first ever win.

Stay warm and dry as best you can, but don't forget, if the kids can play in this mess, and the radio announcers can sit in press boxes in this mess, then fans can certainly put up with the elements, too. :o)
