Former Pierre baseball player Landon Busch struck out 15 batters in seven strong innings as the Brookings Bandits edged two-time defending champion Rapid City Post 22 2-1 in a pitchers duel late Thursday night at the S.D. State Legion Tournament at Riverside Field. In other games yesterday during day 2 of the State Tournament, Sioux Falls West downed Pierre 9-5 and Yankton defeated Garretson 11-2 in elimination games at the tournament. Last night, Sioux Falls East pounded Watertown 19-8. Today's 3 games at the tournament have Yankton facing Watertown at 12:30 pm in an elimination game and Rapid City Post 22 takes on Sioux Falls West at 5 pm in another elimination contest. Brookings and Sioux Falls East face off in the winners bracket game at 7:30pm with the winner assured a spot in Sunday's title game.

The South used a strong defense and a powerful rushing attack Thursday night to defeat the North 38-0 in the football game, the final event of the 2011 South Dakota High School All-Star Games. The South defense held the North to a minus 14 yards rushing on the night. The South led 14-0 at halftime. Pierre's Terelle Walker had 2carries for a minus 7 yards rushing for the North. Sully Buttes Tate Seftner had 1 carry for a minus 6 yards.

Onida natives Curt and Tom Byrum, longtime players on the PGA Tour, will be inducted into the South Dakota Golf Hall of Fame during a ceremony Aug. 8 at Westward Ho Country Club. The induction ceremony and reception begins at 5 p.m. following completion of the Orion Classic at Westward Ho. The Byrum brothers become the 40th and 41st members of the South Dakota Golf Hall of Fame, which was established in 1977.

The Pierre Athletic Booster Club will be holding it's 6th annual Golf Tournament tomorrow at the Oahe Trails Golf Course north of Pierre. The tournament will consist of 6 person teams with a $20 entry fee per person. Cart rental and green fees are extra. Registration begins at 10:30 am with the 9 hole tournament scheduled to tee off at 12 noon.

The Oahe Hockey Association will once again show "Oahe Capitals, The Dream Season", a fundraiser and movie tribute to the first Varsity State Hockey Champions in Pierre-Ft. Pierre. There will be a second showing of the movie tomorrow morning at 11:00 am at the State Theater of Pierre. Admission is a free-will donation, which will be divided between flood relief and the Oahe Hockey Association.

This weekend will be the Junior Jam Weekend at Oahe Speedway north of Pierre. The third of four Street Legal races will be held tonight at the Speedway with the race gates opening at 5 pm and racing running from 6 pm to dark. Countdown to the Jam is tomorrow with two special junior dragster shootout races to be run leading up to Sunday's Junior Jam bringing the areas best junior dragsters to the track. Also on Sunday it is the 2011 National Dragster Challange and the make up of the second Coca Cola Points Series races that were rained out in May. Oahe Speedway is located 14 miles north of Pierre, just off SD Hwy1804.
