The Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball team erased a 7-0 2nd inning deficit to rally and defeat Spearfish 11-8 in the first round of the Region 3A baseball tournament in Rapid City yesterday. Pierre scored 6 runs in the 7th inning to take the lead and then hold on to give starter Scott Cichos the win. Cichos went 8 innings 8 runs on 9 hits. Taylor Owens allowed 2 hits in pitching the 9th inning and picking up the save. Spearfish outhit Pierre 12-11 in the game. Post 8 was led by Jarred Nielan's 3 hits and 2 RBI's. Brandon Heckenliable had 2 hits and 3 RBI's and Tanner Wolf had 3 RBI's for Pierre who faces Rapid City Post 22 this afternoon at 3 pm central time. A win would put Post 8 in the championship game and earn them one of the two Region 3A spots in next week's State Legion Tournament in Yankton.

The Pierre Rattlers dropped a 9-8 verdict to Miller-Wessington Outlaws in the final home game of the regular season for the Rattlers last night at Hyde Stadium. The Outlaws scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to record their second win over Pierre this season. Rattler batters struck out 16 times over the course of the game. Tyson Lindekugel led the Rattlers with 3 hits and 2 RBI's. Pierre falls to 4 and 8 on the season. The Rattlers travel to Redfield for a Saturday afternoon doubleheader for their next action.
