The Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball team went 3-0 to win the annual Doug Koester Memorial baseball tournament yesterday by beating Winner 11-3 yesterday. Following victories over Brandon Valley and Mandan, N.D. on Saturday, Post 8 took care of business early scoring 5 runs in the first inning and crusing the rest of the way. Dylan Schiltz led Pierre's 7 hit attack with two hits and 4 RBI's and Jared Nielan hit a 3 run home run for Pierre. The game was called after 5 innings on the 8 run rule. Scott Cichos pitched the first 4 innings in picking up the win. Cichos allowed 3 runs on 5 hits. John Breckenridge pitched the 5th inning for Pierre walking 1. Pierre won 4 games over the weekend and had one called with Pierre batting in the bottom of the 5th inning on Friday, to improve to 24-20 on the season. Post 8 is off today as they begin the final week of the regular season tomorrow with a doubleheader visit to Spearfish tomorrow night.

The Pierre Rattlers amateur baseball team downed Winner/Colome 11-2 last night in Winner. John Richter, Bret Graves and Tyson Lindekugel all had 3 hits apeice for the Rattlers while Lonnie Moody, Brian Graves and Charlie Magedanz had two apeice. Richter had 3 RBI's for Pierre and Harry Decker pitched 8 innings allowing 1 earned run on 8 hits while striking out 3 for the Rattlers. Pierre is now 4 and 7 on the season with their next game on Wednesday night when they entertain 4 Corners at Hyde Stadium.

A boys basketball team from Crow Creek prevailed as champions of the Native American Invitational Basketball Tournament held over the weekend in Phoenix, Arizona. The Crow Creek team went 5-0 in the tournament winning the championship on Saturday downing the Native Boys 59-51 to win the NABI Silver Division tournament. Crow Creek was the only South Dakota squad in the national tournament.

Lowell Somsen and Cody Somsen both of Pierre finsished 3rd in the 31st annual West Whitlock Amrican Legion Fishing tournament west of Gettysburg over the weekend, with a total catch of 35.65 pounds. The duo sat in the lead after the first day with 19.80 pounds. The biggest fish of the tournament came on Saturday from Corey Heien and Michael Warren of Pierre, with a weight of 7.5 pounds. 600 fish were brought in on the weekend with a total weight of 1,329.95 pounds—about 300 pounds more than the 2010 tournament total.
