The Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball team made quick work of Spearrfish last night winning 11-1 and 12-1 with game 1 called after 6 innings and game 2 after 5 on the 10 run mercy rule. In the opener, Pierre scored 7 times in the 5th inning to break the game open. Adam Deneke, John Breckinridge and Mac Mercer each had 2 hits apeice and 4 players drove in two runs apiece. Deneke fired a complete game 3 hitter striking out 5 and walking only 1. In the nightcap, Pierre scored 6 times in the 4th after building a 6-1 lead after 3. Jordan Smith picked up the win on the mound firing a 3 hitter while allowing just 1 run. Tyler Ness had 3 hits to pace Pierre while Deneke and Orin Burke had 2 hits apiece. Dylan Schiltz had 3 RBI's. Pierre has won 6 straight and is 6 games over the .500 mark at 26-20 as they close out the regular season tomorrow night with a road trip to Aberdeen.

The Pierre Green 15-16 Teener baseball team split a doubleheader yesterday in Watertown winning the first game, the league contest, 12-0 behind the 9 strikout shutout performance from Cooper Walton on the mound. Watertown rallied for a 9-5 victory in the nightcap. Pierre Green is 20-11 overall and 4 and 2 in league play. The Pierre Green plays a doubleheader at Webster today. The Pierre White plays a doubleheader in Brookings this evening.

The Pierre Rattlers amateur baseball team returns to the field tonight when they host Four Corners in a non league game at Hyde Stadium. It will be the third and final meeting between the two squads this season and it is the rubber game. Each team has won, on the others home field with Four Corners pulling out a 13-5 10 inning win over the Rattlers two weeks ago in the most recent game between the two teams. First pitch is scheduled for 7 pm tonight.

South Dakota's first and only professional soccer player and Pierre native, Chris Houser, will be in Pierre tomorrow to conduct a Free Soccer Clinic in association with the Capital Area Soccer Association at the Pierre Indian Learning Center Soccer Fields. The Clinic is being held from 9 am to 12 noon. A Free Will Donation will be taken with all proceeds donated to the Bankwest Flood Relief Fund. The Clinic itself will center on Soccer skills, Education on Sports & Family and Environmental Awareness. The clinic is for all players ages 4 to 19. Houser says that the group he works for, Re-Think Soccer, is hoping that these clinics become a yearly occurance. So far, Houser has conducted clinics in Sioux Falls earlier this week and he is in Parker and Yankton today. The MidWest Wild Bunch returns to Oahe Speedway for the 6th time this weekend. The group of racers always puts on a great show for drag racing fans. Anything from a blown alcohol funny car to a turbocharged, to the max, 8-second Ford Probe could be in competition. The current track speed record, 203.02 mph, could be in jeopardy this coming weekend. Les Feist, of Clearwater, MN, set the top speed at last years event. Another Wild Bunch contender. Rick Schmidt, of Dickinson, ND, set the ET and MPH records for door cars, with an ET of 7.276 seconds, at 187.93 MPH, back in 2008. The Midwest Wild Bunch will be at the speedway running both Saturday and Sunday.
