The Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball team begins it's post season run today at the Region 3A tournament in Rapid City and hosted by Rapid City Post 22 at Fitzgerald Stadium. Pierre's first game is at 2 pm mountain time when they face Spearfish. Sturgis and Rapid City Post 320 open the tournament with the winner of that game facing Post 22 tonight. The championship is scheduled for Friday. The top two teams in the 5 team Region advance to next week's State American Legion Championship tournament in Yankton.

The Pierre White 15-16 Teener baseball team swept a doubleheader from Yankton yesterday winning 11-5 and 5-4 on a hot afternoon and evening in Pierre yesterday. In the opener, which was the league contest, Pierre banged out 13 hits with Shay Rienke leading the way with 3 hits. Pierre scored 5 runs in the 6th inning to pull away. Bo Atkins and Ben Liedholt combined on a 7 hitter on the mound with Atkins getting the win. The nightcap was shortened to 5 innings due to the heat with Pierre prevailing. Pierre outhit Yankton 10-7 with Reinke and Liedholt each getting two hits apiece. Pierre scored 3 runs in the 4th to erase a 4-2 Yankton lead. Alex Meagher pitched the 5 innings in getting the win.

Tel Schaack of Hermosa won the Tuesday morning tie-down roping performance with a time of 9.17 seconds at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette, Wyo. Team ropers Levi Lord of Rapid City and Jade Nelson of Midland clocked a 7.63 to finish third in the performance. Highmore’s Drew Cowan tallied 180 points in boys cutting and Steven DeWolfe of Buffalo Gap recorded a 57-point bareback ride. For the cowgirls, Chesney Nagel of Springfield clocked an 11.06 in the goat tying while Kimball’s Jill Jandreau had a 3.56 in breakaway roping.

The Pierre Senior Olympics are coming up on Friday and Saturday August 5th and 6th in Pierre. The yearly event begins at 1 pm on the 5th with Bridge at the Pierre Area Senior Center. Registration will be from 5 to 7 pm at the Oahe Family YMCA with Friday evening events including Horsehoes at Griffin Park and Bean BAg, Basketball and Table Tennis at the YMCA. Saturday's events include Track and Field that morning at the Track at Hollister Field at Phil Trautner Stadium. Pickle Ball at the YMCA and Bowling, Darts and 8 Ball Pool at the Lariet Lanes.
