The Pierre Post 8 American Legion baseball team split a doubleheader with Brookings yesterday at Hyde Stadium winning the first game 7-6 in walkoff fasion in the bottom of t he 7th and then losing the nightcap 2-0 in 9 innings. Tyler Ness took the loss in the nightcap despite going the distance. Ness and former Pierre pitcher Landon
Busch dueled through 8 innings with neither giving up a run and both giving up 6 hits. Hunter Mouw pitched in the 9th for Brookings allowing 1 hit in picking up the win. In the opener, Pierre trailed 6-5 going into the bottom of the 7th before scoring two runs to secure Post 8's 20th win of the season against 18 setbacks. Taylor Owens picked up the win in relief of starter Mac Mercer for Pierre who host Watertown Tuesday night at Hyde Stadium.

Pierre will play Spearfish in their first game of the Region 3A tournament July 20th through the 22nd at Rapid City and hosted by Rapid City Post 22. Sturgis and Rapid City Post 320 open the tournament at 11 am on the 20th with the winner to face Post 22 that night at 8 pm. Pierre and Spearfish play at 2 pm. The winner advances to play the winner of the Rapid City Post 22 contest on the 21st. The loser will play the loser of the Sturgis and Post 320 game in an elimination game at 5 pm on the 20th. The top two teams advance to the State Legion tournament in Yankton that begins on July 27th.
